Work Experience

We offer work experience opportunities throughout the year to give young people an insight into the workplace and the property sector.

We have set up a Young Persons’ Programme to provide internships and work experience. This offers unique insight into what it’s like to work in property, as well as introducing students to the work of our support functions, like finance, human resources, and communications.

We host a range of work experience programmes at LocatED. This includes one-week, two-week and seven-week placements, typically in a hybrid working pattern, with students splitting their time between the office and working from home.

Throughout the placement, students shadow various teams at LocatED and get involved in a range of tasks. In some placements, students will also be assigned a project that forms the main focus of their time with us. This is why our work experience programme is a great way to learn transferable skills that form a vital foundation for any career path, including:

  • An introduction into the working world, workplace behaviours and expectations
  • How to work collaboratively
  • How to communicate effectively, including impactful presentations and reporting
  • The opportunity to learn processes and procedures
  • Understanding the wider property market and the work of our Acquisitions, Technical and Planning, Asset Management, and Development Teams.

All work experience is unpaid, although we will reimburse any business-related expenses, including the cost of travelling to and from the office, and provide lunch.

King’s story

King is studying at University of Westminster and joined our two-week property work experience programme after attending a LocatED insight day earlier in the year.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my work experience at LocatED. I have found it insightful and informative, with many practical experiences that I’ve been involved in. It has given me a unique view into the commercial side of real estate, and from the amount of learning I have done during the two weeks, I would definitely be interested in taking on a graduate scheme after I have finished university in order to complete my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).”

Lorenzo’s story

“On my first day at LocatED I was introduced to the team and given several inductions by business support, the technical and planning team, the finance team and Michael Wu from Legal. All of which were a helpful insight to the company.

I was included in meetings, which although seemed very complicated, gave me an understanding on how business meetings are conducted. I was also taken to the cross collaboration workshop and awards ceremony, and on a site visit to LSA school which were great experiences. The free lunch sessions and presentations were a treat.”

Desha’s story

“I found my time at LocatED was very insightful. I learnt a lot about property and the different sectors within it and loved the experience of what it is like to work in a firm.

LocatED offered a variety of activities for me to experience such as site visits, meetings and introductions to several of the roles needed in the company. I received a lot of career advice and support from the staff. Thank you for having me at LocatED.”

Imran’s story

“My work experience at LocatED was amazing. The team were very welcoming and went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable and able to make the most of my time there. When I attended meetings, the purpose was explained.

I enjoyed my time shadowing the marketing team – writing up social media posts and organising event collateral. CV screening with HR was extremely beneficial too, they even helped me improve my own!

The lunch and learn seminar presented by the Department for Education Design Team was thought-provoking. I learnt a range of things in this placement – the importance of teamwork and the act of relying on each other to complete tasks efficiently. I am really grateful for this opportunity, thank you!”
